Duplicating Smart Objects

When you duplicate a Smart Object (using Ctrl J – Mac: Command J), any changes you make to the Smart Object will affect both copies.

To avoid this, right-click (Mac: Control-click) on the Smart Object and choose “New Smart Object Via Copy.” Doing so will allow you to edit each of the Smart Objects independently.

This is perfect for making two Camera Raw edits of the same RAW file.
