These new range masking tools in Camera Raw and Lightroom Classic CC can detect changes in lighting and contrasting edges based on color and tone.

You can make quick initial masking selections with Adjustment Brushes or Radial Filter/Graduated Filter. Then refine your selection with the range masks, located under Auto-Mask in the Adjustment Brush tool options.

Luminance Range Mask

After applying a local adjustment with the Brush or Radial Filter/Graduated Filter, use Luminance Range Masking to refine the mask area based on the luminance range of the selection.

Color Range Mask

After applying a local adjustment with the Brush or Radial Filter/Graduated Filter, use Color Range Masking to refine the selection mask based on the colors sampled within the mask area.
